MS Scene Study (grades 5-8) scene study

For performers eager to deepen their acting training, this scene study class gives students practice preparing a role in a play. We will delve into the core of the scenes through rehearsals and improvisational games that teach basic acting skills: clarity of thought, intention of action, commitment to choices, and active listening and responding while in character. While rehearsing scenes, students will learn to research and explore their character, balance logic with imagination, identify their character's journey, collaborate with scene partners, and rehearse productively.

Dates: 10/2 to 12/11 (no class 11/27)
Times: Saturdays 2:00 to 3:30
Tuition: $325 for 10 1 ½-hour classes
Instructor: Jessica Rodriguez

commedia

Introduction to Commedia (grades 8-11)

Get to know a different side of classical theatre! Learn the style of Commedia dell’Arte, complete with masks, physical comedy, ridiculous situations and improvisation. Starting from the beginning, this class will introduce students to the characters and techniques of Commedia, including mask work, solo and partner improvisation, basic acrobatics, and cultivating a powerful and exuberant stage presence. Class culminates in a showcase performance of scenes. No previous experience necessary. This class is perfect for students interested in clowning and physical comedy, or who might want to audition for TPE’s popular summer Commedia Troupe.

Commedia Dell’Arte is the style of improvised, masked theatre that invented many theatrical conventions that we now take for granted: slapstick comedy, professional actors and (startling enough) women playing the female roles! Originating during the Italian Renaissance, Commedia dominated the European theatre scene for more than two centuries and inspired everyone from Shakespeare and Moliere to (much later) TV’s Gilligan’s Island and The Simpsons.

Dates: 10/2 to 12/11 (no class 11/27)
Times: Saturdays 3:30 to 5:00
Tuition: $325 for 10 1 ½-hour classes
Instructor: Toby Mulford

HS Monologues and Audition Technique (grades 9-12) monologues

Spend this autumn selecting, rehearsing and performing monologues that showcase your strengths as a performer! In this intensive class, we will delve into acting techniques, explore textual analysis, physically train the actor’s body and voice, and discuss/practice audition strategies. Class concludes with a showcase of monologues. This class is ideal for high school seniors who are preparing audition monologues for college, or anyone who wants to prepare themselves for school, professional or Traveling Troupe auditions.

Dates: 10/2 to 12/11 (no class 11/27)
Times: Saturdays 2:00 to 4:00
Tuition: $425 for 10 2-hour classes
Instructor: Jeanne Harrison
