Summer Camp Sessions 2017

Elementary & Middle School

Current 3rd – 8th graders


Acting Sampler Week

1 Week
Current 3rd – 5th graders
A one-week program with a little bit of everything, including: improvisation, acting, Shakespeare, stage combat, mask and outdoor fun.  Includes an evening  showcase performance for family, plus a campfire with s’mores.  Great as an introduction to Traveling Players, or as a warm-up for the full two- or four-week session.


Mythology EnsembleGreek Myths

2 Weeks
Current 4th – 6th graders

Perform a short play based on world mythology, using words, movement, and music to tell your story.  A perfect introduction to Traveling Players: an inclusive, fun environment for newcomers, with challenging roles for more experienced actors.  Two overnights plus a mini-tour to perform publicly, including an appearance at our final festival!


Middle School Ensemble

4 Weeks
Current 5th – 8th graders

Rehearse and perform a full play, and then take it on tour!  Great for kids who want the full Traveling Players experience.  Four performances for area camps, libraries, scouts, and children’s hospitals – culminating in a public festival.  Campers wishing to perform in two different productions can register for both sessions.

High School

Current 8th – 12th graders


High School Ensemble

4 Weeks; 3 Days on tour
Current 8th – 12th graders

Perform “Shakespeare in the Park” at Shenandoah National Park’s Skyland Amphithater.  Backpack off the Appalachian Trail!  A three-day tour features hiking, swimming, and four performances, including a final festival.  A great introduction to Shakespeare, with lots of rich challenges for experienced actors.

4 Weeks; 3 Days on tour
or 7 Weeks, 13 Days on tour (by interview only)
Current 8th – 12th graders

Work on props, sets, and costumes alongside professional designers and craftspeople.  Go on tour with the High School Ensemble to Shenandoah National Park, or interview to be included in Traveling Troupe’s 2-week tour!


Commedia Troupe – NEW DATES AND PRICE FOR 2017Commedia dell'Arte training

4 Weeks + 2 Days; 5 Days on tour
Current 8th – 12th graders
Create an original play in four weeks, using the traditional masks, storylines, and improvisational techniques of Commedia dell’Arte.  Tour your masterpiece for one week by bus and backpack, presenting seven performances.  An advanced option, perfect for budding clowns, acrobats, movers, and comedians, or any actor seeking an experience that cannot be found anywhere else in the DC area.  By audition only.


Traveling TroupeTT Much Ado 2

7 Weeks; 13 Days on tour
Current 9th – 12th graders
Experience a professional-level tour while still in high school: five weeks of rehearsal followed by an optional two-week tour by bus and backpack!  Performances include: “Shakespeare in the Park” in the gorgeous Lime Kiln Amphitheater, and Colonial Williamsburg, site of the Colonies’ first theater. The tour includes outdoor fun: swimming, white water rafting, hiking, and a day exploring Colonial Williamsburg.  By audition only.
