"TPE has made me realize that acting isn't the big theater space indoors with fancy sets, it is what you create yourselves and how you tell the story." - Camper

High School Ensemble 2012

Session 1: June 25 - July 20
Session 2: July 23 - August 17

Perform "Shakespeare in the Park" while backpacking off the Appalachian Trail!

Working in an ensemble of up to 13 actors, the High School Ensemble rehearses a Shakespeare play under the direction of a master teacher. Rehearsals focus on character creation, objectives, vocal technique, text analysis, physical engagement and ensemble training. Outdoor rehearsals and weekly campouts prepare you to go on a three-day tour, hiking, swimming, camping and performing outdoors in Shenandoah National Park's Skyland Amphitheater. Cook over a fire, play in a waterfall and sleep under the stars! Great for all levels of experience. No audition is required.

The Play

This year, the ensemble performs The Tempest, Shakespeare's last - and perhaps best - play. Ship wrecks, mighty magicians, innocent lovers, monsters, spirits, drunken jesters, schemers and murderers inhabit this enchanted, tropical island. Characters battle the elements, magic and their emotions in their search for love, forgiveness and peace.
