In residence at the Madeira School
Located on a beautiful 376-acre plot on the banks of the Potomac River, the Madeira School boasts woods, fields, hiking trails and camping spots. Madeira's classrooms and theatre spaces provide indoor space where campers can shelter from storms or excessive heat, but we spend the majority of our time outdoors.
On Thursdays, once rehearsals have finished for the day, the campers turn their attention to the overnight. Middle Schoolers cook, eat, play and camp at the beathtaking "Spiritual Moment", overlooking the Potomac River. High Schoolers take a short but challenging hike to Black Pond, where they spend the night away from lights and mechanical sounds, serenaded by frogs and crickets.
Each session ends with a performance festival at Madeira's open field, nicknamed "The Grotto." Audience members relax in the shade of pine trees and enjoy plays as nature intended: with the natural light of the sun, and the soundtrack of wind in the trees.
PLEASE NOTE: The Middle School Sampler Week is located at the Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland.
