Information for Campers and Parents |
Working in an ensemble of up to 14 actors, the Traveling Troupe rehearses a full-length Shakespeare play under the direction of master teacher and TPE’s Founding Artistic Director Jeanne Harrison. Rehearsals focus on Shakespearean text analysis and speech, scene dynamics, stage movement, emotional and physical engagement and ensemble training. Outdoor rehearsals, rigorous rehearsals and weekly campouts prepare you to go on a spectacular 13-day tour by bus and backpack. Performances include: the breathtaking Lime Kiln Theater, the Mary Louise Jackson Amphitheater in Manassas and Colonial Williamsburg, site of the first theater in the colonies. The tour also includes outdoor fun: swimming, white water rafting, hiking, and a day pass to Colonial Williamsburg.
Master the skills of touring a full production: camp, cook and perform outside; manage your own props, set, lights and costumes; form bonds with your fellow performers that last long after the summer is over. Perfect for experienced performers ready to take on greater challenges and rewards.
The Play
This summer’s play is Love’s Labour’s Lost by Shakespeare. King Ferdinand and his three friends have sworn not to speak to women, so that they may devote all their attention to their studies. But when the Princess of France and her three beautiful companions arrive in the kingdom for an extended visit, the friends begin to regret their oath. Can the young men pursue their loves without violating their vows…and will the women respect them if they do? Fake Russians, fantastical Spaniards, thwarted lovers and glorious word play populate one of Shakespeare’s most dazzling comedies.
