Packing List for a Troupe Tour
In your BIG FRAMED BACKPACK (big enough to hold your sleeping bag, pad, clothing, and gear, small enough for you to carry easily and to fit into your tent):
- LINED WITH TRASHBAGS!!!! Wet gear is not happy! (I use one for my sleeping bag at the bottom and another for my clothes and such on top).
- Hiking boots (must be sturdy, with good treading, if you don’t have some worn-in boots, then bring your sturdiest sneakers)
- Water Sandals (for white water rafting, the bus, and walking in town, need good treading, NOT flip flops)
- 5 or 6 pairs of non-cotton socks (wool or synthetic will keep your feet happy)
- Flashlight and extra batteries
- sleeping bag with stuff sack
- sleeping pad
- Sheet (lightweight for hot nights in the tent when a sleeping bag is too hot) (optional)
- Clothing:
- 12 pairs underwear
- 2-3 bras and/or sports bras for the ladies
- 1-2 pants (recommend breathable, light weight, hardy, if bringing jeans, PLEASE bring a pair of hiking pants as well)
- 1-2 pair shorts (recommend breathable, light weight, hardy, zip-offs are great!)
- long underwear (optional)
- rain paints (optional)
- something to sleep in (I wear my cleanest sweats/long undies/shorts/t-shirts, depending on the weather, but I don’t bring something extra)
- 3-5 t-shirts (wicking shirts are highly recommended because you can rinse them at night and have them “clean” and dry by the morning)
- 2 long sleeve shirts
- RAIN COAT (not a poncho)
- fleece or wool sweater
- warm vest (optional)
- hat (either to keep you warm at night or cool during the day)
- 1 bandana
- one “clean” outfit to wear to restaurants that you can keep in a plastic bag in your pack
- Swimsuit
- Small Towel
In your SMALL DAYPACK (big enough to hold a water bottle, your lunch, your rain gear, an extra shirt, and a book. It should be easy to carry on your back while you hike):
- Journal (optional)
- Pens, crayons, etc (optional)
- deck of cards
- 1-2 books (we can all trade books so you will have plenty to read)
- 1 CD (For the bus ride, bring something we can all enjoy!)
- Money (Bring $100 for shopping and for extra restaurant meals)
- Vitamins and medicine (give us your meds)
- 2 water bottles (Not deer park water bottles, but sturdy reusable bottles. We may have a bunch of extras in the lost and found from last session)
- Sunglasses (optional)
- Pocket knife (optional)
- Tupperware and fork/spork/foon (for eating dinners)
- Plastic coffee mug (optional)
- Your SCRIPT!
- Camera (optional)
- Costume Stuff:
- Underclothes for costume
- Stage make-up
- Costume shoes
- In a small separate bag or ziplock:
- toothbrush
- toothpaste
- dental floss
- shampoo, etc
- soap
- face wash
- tampons, etc
- nail clippers
- other toiletries
- Tick repellant (Deet (effective but intense); Repel Lemon Eucalyptus (the herbal equivalent of Deet, my personal preference, found REI) or pre-treat your clothing with Sawyer’s Permethrin spray (also found at REI—spray, let dry for 24 hours, then good for 2 weeks). It’s deer ticks that carry Lyme Disease, and although only a small percentage of the ticks are infected, these are simple ways to protect yourself.
- Suntan lotion
- REALLY IMPORTANT PAPERS:
- Student ID (to get into theatre at student rate)
- Signed permission slip for white water rafting
(Note: Anything with ANY SCENT whatsoever NEVER goes into a tent. These are your “smellies” and could attract bears. Your smellies only go into your day pack, which stays on the bus. I’ve highlighted the smellies on the list to help you keep them separated.)
We still have T-shirts ($15), Fleeces ($45), water bottles ($18) and water bottle splash guards ($3), if you need them.
