Theatre Director: direct the Middle School Ensemble’s production of The Doctor In Spite of Himself by Moliere. Director serves as most senior faculty member of small ensemble of 13 performers, supported by professional designers and a stage manager/acting coach. TPE can supervise your work for internship or college credit. TPE is in residence at The Madeira School in Mclean, VA. Transportation provided from DC-metro area.

Ideal candidate will have a graduate degree, training in Commedia dell’Arte, experience directing students (ages 11-14 or 13-18), a strong belief in the power of the ensemble, and relish working outdoors. 

$350-$450/week base salary (June 7 – August 9). Additional fees for additional services.

Assistant Head of Costume Shop: work with professional designers to create costumes for touring productions of Two Noble Kinsemen, As You Like It, The Doctor In Spite of Himself and The Blue Monster, while training a crew of students to assist you.  Good sewing skills are essential; teaching experience a plus.  Dates: June 7 – August 9

$205-$275/week for 6-11 weeks.  Additional fees for additional services.

Head of Scene/Props Shop: works with professional designers to create sets/props for touring productions of Two Noble Kinsmen, As You Like It, The Doctor In Spite of Himself, and The Blue Monster while training a small crew of students to assist you.  Camp dates are June 7 – August 9.

Good construction and safety skills are essential; teaching experience a plus. 

$250-$350/week base salary for Head position.  Additional fees for additional services.

Theatre Teacher (4 positions): function as stage manager/assistant director/acting coach for one of 4 shows (Two Noble Kinsmen, As You Like It, The Doctor in Spite of Himself or The Blue Monster) and teach theatre classes on area of specialty (acting, improvisation, movement: combat/Laban/clowning, voice).  Shakespeare Teacher (2 openings): assist with Two Noble Kinsmen or As You Like ItStage Combat and/or Clowning Teacher: assist with Middle School’s production of The Blue MonsterTheatre Teacher: assist with Middle School’s production of The Doctor in Spite of Himself

Ideal candidate will have BA or MFA, training in Shakespeare/Commedia dell’Arte, experience teaching acting to students (ages 11-14 or 13-18), a strong belief in the power of the ensemble, and relish working outdoors.  Experience with ensemble-building using a low ropes course, or Leave No Trace camping skills a plus.  To teach stage combat, you must be certified.  Dates: June 7 – August 9.

$205-$300/week base salary.  Additional fees for additional services.

Internship Opportunities

Development/Marketing Intern: assists managing director and artistic director in preparing grants, donor relations, organizing fundraisers, placing ads, writing press releases and reviewing marketing plan and presenting recommendations. 

Program Manager Intern: assists managing director and artistic director by serving as registrar for arts education programs, human resources for summer personnel and assisting in marketing program through by responding to inquires and attending publicity events. 

Finance Intern: assists managing director and artistic director by submitting payroll, bookkeeping in QuickBooks, managing accounts payable, re-organizing list of accounts in QuickBooks to more seamlessly transfer into documents needed for most grants applications, analyzing fiscal health of organization and presenting recommendations.

Commitment: 2-3 days/week (24 hours max/week); occasional evening or weekend hours.  Ideal candidate will be an arts management student; detail-oriented, highly organized, able to multi-task, initiate and collaborate; possess strong communication skills; have some experience in specific field and have a reliable vehicle (no public transportation available).  Compensation: Unpaid; however, TPE can supervise your work for internship or college credit.  TPE is a growing organization and internships can lead to future employment (we hired our last intern!)
