For performers eager to deepen their acting training, this scene study class gives students practice preparing a role in a play.  We will delve into the core of the scenes through rehearsals and improvisational games that teach basic acting skills: clarity of thought, intention of action, commitment to choices, and active listening and responding while in character.   While rehearsing scenes, students will learn to research and explore their character, balance logic with imagination, identify their character’s journey, collaborate with scene partners, and rehearse productively.

A performance class for middle school students! This class will rehearse a short play, and then take it on tour to perform for the local community, performing in libraries, parks, and community centers. The play will be professionally directed and fully produced, with costumes and a set, and its own purple bus to carry it to performance venues!

The play will be chosen based on what will serve the actors best, selected from Traveling Players Ensemble’s extensive library of middle school plays. Whether it’s a witty lunchroom comedy like Sammy Carducci’s Guide to Women or a wacky fantasia like Revenge of the Space Pandas, the play will contain juicy, challenging, appropriate roles for every actor.

Our rehearsals will include text analysis, acting exercises, movement workshops and improvisational games that explore the world of the play. The class is appropriate for experienced actors, as well as for those new to theatre. There is no audition to enroll.

Put those acting skills to work and watch them grow! This class will rehearse an abridged Shakespeare play, and then take it on tour to perform for the local community.  We will also apply to perform at the Folger Shakespeare Library Secondary School Festival.  This festival is a wonderful opportunity for students to perform on a professional stage, watch productions by their peers and get feedback from theatre professionals.

The class will perform Measure for Measure, Shakespeare’s challenging problem play.

Our rehearsals will prepare us well, with analysis of Shakespeare’s language, acting exercises, movement workshops and improvisational games that explore the world of the play.  The class is appropriate for experienced actors, as well as for those just being introduced to Shakespeare.  There is no audition to enroll.

Festival: The Folger makes festival acceptance decisions at the end of January.  If accepted, our cast will need to MISS SCHOOL on the day of each festival in order to participate.  The Folger Shakespeare Library’s Secondary School Festival is March 5-7, and 10-12, 2014. (For more information, click here).

SENIOR RUSH WEEK: Due to high anticipated registration for this class, we will process only registrations from current high school seniors until December 6.  Other registrations received during that time will be held, and processed on December 7th, in the order in which they were received.  Seniors registering after December 6 will be processed normally, in order of receipt.
