Commedia Christmas Carol
Through the Years!

2021

In 2021, Traveling Players was asked to perform at the Tysons Tree Lighting ceremony. With just 5 actors, we created A 15-minute Commedia Christmas Carol – a devised piece which became the framework for all future productions. Staples of this production have carried on to all future productions, including our ladder, the Fezziwig dance, a Pantalone mask for Scrooge, and puppet Tiny Tim!

2022

In 2022, we leaped from a 15-minute short play to a 75-minute extravaganza! The cast almost tripled in size, and we adapted a full script based on Dickens’ original novel. The late US Congressman Gerry Conolly and District Supervisor Dalia Palchik joined our actors on stage as our VIP Charity Collectors!

2023

In 2023, the production continued to grow. New characters and scenes were added, as we refined our adaptation, and backstories were deepened with the help of a student playwright.  Our VIP performers proved to be so popular that we invited a duo of VIPs to every performance, including Traveling Players alumni, board members, and prominent members of our community.

2024

In 2024, we had our largest and most ambitious production yet.  Four elementary schoolers joined the cast in children’s roles alongside our high school actors, giving us new opportunities to deepen the production. We also commissioned a new set of ghostly masks from master artisan Newman, which are used by Jacob Marley and the flying spirits who haunt Scrooge.
