Preparing a Role [Thespians]

Creating a convincing character requires actors to go deep and understand what makes them tick. This class will give you the tools to expand your imagination and bring characters to life!
For current 6th – 8th graders
- Time: Sundays, 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm
- Dates: Feb 12 – Apr 30
- Important Dates:
- Apr 2 – No Class (Spring Break)
- Apr 9 – No Class (Spring Break)
- Apr 30 – Showcase!
- Rates: $350 ($375 after the Early Bird flies away on Jan 31)
Focusing on depth instead of breadth, the class will read two plays and perform scenes from them. Students will hone their analytical skills and spark their creative impulses to flesh out their characters so that they truly live on stage in front of us.
A thorough introduction for the beginner and a deeper exploration for those with some experience, this class will focus on listening, liberating the imagination, responding spontaneously, physical and vocal specificity and committing to choices. Students will learn how to apply their skills to developing a clear, radiating character.
Traveling Players classes and summer camps/conservatories offer expert training in acting, character creation, physical comedy, stage combat, improvisation, and text analysis. We also value the spirit of the ensemble. Our ensemble- and team-building activities create a strong, supportive class — and friendships that can last a lifetime!
This class clarifies basic acting technique and introduces advanced techniques. We have found that you can never go over basic acting technique enough, as it is the foundation of all higher level work. This class solidifies the basics, thereby setting up students for success in high school, college and beyond!
Traveling Players is exquisitely balanced between having the artistic professionalism to provide my adolescent with new creative challenges as he grows, and the behavioral/child development smarts, helping him be a part of cohesive units.

While I and other Traveling Players auditioned for the school play, I could see the improvements that they made and skills that they learned. A bit of Traveling Players was in every audition they did. All of us scored fun and great roles in the school play and enjoyed acting on the stage (but it would have been even better if we were acting outdoors).
