Here is everything you need to know!

Auditions

You can audition virtually or in person (at our Studio in Tysons, VA).  Either way, you must register to audition.  Our auditions can go on waiting lists, so don’t delay.  Read more about our audition process here.

Drop Off & Pick Up - Plus Performances

Traveling Playes operates out of two locations over the summer, and our campers visit both of them.

  • All Traveling Players programs at Christchurch School end with a performance that is open to the public.  None of the performances are at Christchurch School.  All performances will be in Tysons, VA.
  • Pick up could be after the final performance or the next day.  See below for details.
Act: FIVE:
Mythology Ensemble:
Thespian, Comedy & Shakespeare Ensembles:
  • Drop off is at Christchurch School, VA (Airport Shuttle & Purple Bus Express available)
  • Pick up is at Christchurch, VA (Airport Shuttle & Purple Bus Express available)
    • NOTE: All 3-week Ensembles perform the NIGHT BEFORE their pick-up day.  You cannot take your child home after the show.  (Sorry!  It’s not quite over yet!  They will have none of their belongings - and we need to do closure activities that solidify the educational value of their experience.)
Shakespeare Troupe:
  • Drop off is at Christchurch School, VA (Airport Shuttle & Purple Bus Express available)
  • Mid-Summer Vacation pick up at Christchurch School, VA (Airport Shuttle & Purple Bus Express available)
  • Mid-Summer Vacation drop off  at Christchurch School, VA (Airport Shuttle & Purple Bus Express available)
  • Pick up is at Christchurch, VA (Airport Shuttle & Purple Bus Express available)
    • NOTE: Shakespeare Troupe performs for a week, so you have 5 opportunities to see the play/your child (yes, we encourage groupies!).  The tour ends two days before their summer program is over, so you cannot take your child home after a performance.  (Sorry!  It’s not quite over yet!)

Lodging Close to Performances

If your child is participating in a program that has a Final Performance the day before pick-up (all our 3-week and 6-week programs), we have several options for you:

  • Stay at a hotel close to Tysons Corner the night of the performance, then drive down to Christchurch the next day for pick-up.  There are many options in Tysons, but if you want to stay right next to our Studio, we have a discount code for the Hyatt Regency.  Ask any of our staff for it!
  • Carpools are a great way to save energy.  If you want to carpool, reach out to us, and we’ll connect you to others who hope to carpool as well.
  •  You could travel towards Saluda, VA.  Christchurch School has several options close to the school on its website here.   From there, you could visit Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Richmond, and/or Virginia Beach.

Purple Bus Express!

Don't want to make the drive down? You can add on bus fare to your registration for Drop-Off and/or Pick-Up! Dates of service: June 28, July 17, July 19, and August 7. $115 one-way, $230 round trip.

Mid-Summer Vacation

Many of our students attend both sessions.  There is a little break (from midday July 17 to midday July 19), however, when everyone leaves campus.

If you want to reconnect with your child, then you can stay close to campus.  Christchurch School has several options on its website here.   From there, you could visit Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Richmond, and/or Virginia Beach.

Alternatively, we can help you find a castmate that you can stay with over the Mid-Summer Vacation.  Traveling Players is fortunate to have a welcoming and interconnected community.  Just let us know that you are interested in being hosted, and we will connect you with other families in your child’s ensemble.

Note: if your host family’s child is booked on the Purple Bus Express (LINK!!!), then you should book, too, so that you arrive back together in Tysons, VA.  Space is limited on the Purple Bus Express.

Air Travel

The closest airport to our summer residence (Christchurch School) is the Richmond International Airport (RIC).  Traveling Players offers shuttle service to and from RIC on the first and last day of each 3- and 6-week session.  There is a $160 fee each way to use the shuttle service.  If you are interested in using the shuttle service, please email outreach@travelingplayers.org for further booking details.

Shuttle Dates for 2026

  • Arrival Dates: June 28 & July 19

  • Return Dates: July 17 & August 7

Traveling Players is unable to arrange shuttle service to any airport other than Richmond International Airport (RIC).

Unaccompanied Minors (aged 14 and under for most airlines)

Unaccompanied Minor is a term used by the airlines for a fee-based escort service for a young traveler.  The airlines charge a separate fee for this service.  Each airline has its own specific requirements for transporting young travelers.  We recommend that families check with the air carrier to determine what requirements apply to a minor child.  See below for unaccompanied minor information for main airline carriers.

We also recommend that you schedule flights early in the day.  Airlines will not board an unaccompanied minor if any flights of the trip are the last flight of the day.

Luggage

If you are planning to ship your luggage to camp, please allow at least two weeks for items to arrive at Christchurch School from the continental U.S. and Canadian sites and longer from other locations.  Place addresses (origin and destination) and phone numbers inside shipped items in case exterior tags become lost.  It is recommended to ship belongings in boxes that can be reused at the end of the session.

To ship luggage and boxes in advance, use the following address and include the student’s arrival date:

<Camper’s Name>
Traveling Players
c/o Christchurch School
49 Seahorse Lane
Christchurch, Virginia  23031

Shipping Luggage Home

Campers who shipped their luggage to camp can elect to ship their luggage home after camp. Families will be responsible for the cost of shipment from camp and an additional $25 convenience fee.
