Shakespeare Ensemble

Classical Acting Training
for Modern Actors

Residential Conservatory for Grades 8-12

Our Shakespeare Ensemble puts 400-year-old words in the mouths of teenagers. In just three weeks, the Shakespeare Ensemble produces a 75-minute, professionally directed and designed production of one of the Bard’s greatest works. Our directors know how to challenge teenage actors artistically while supporting them personally. Students receive expert training in acting, movement, textual analysis, and performing Shakespeare.

This summer's play is Shakespeare's merry war of wit, Much Ado About Nothing, where lovers exchange insults rather than kisses until tricked into confessing their true feelings.

Why Parents Choose Traveling Players
INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION, EXTRAORDINARY GROWTH

At Traveling Players, our staff are professional teaching artists with many years of experience in theatre, teaching, and joy!  With a team for each ensemble of 13 actors, we have a 1:5 faculty-student ratio.  This ensures that our students are always being worked with and bettering their skills, rather than waiting in the wings. Whether they are learning a combat sequence, running a scene, or working on a monologue, training is constant for everyone regardless of casting.

We also have a rotation of classes everyday where students will come together to learn. Don't fight in the show? Not a problem! You will still learn stage combat skills in class. Playing the straight man this year? Stretch your funny bone in improv class.

This summer's play is Shakespeare's merry war of wit, Much Ado About Nothing, where lovers exchange insults rather than kisses until tricked into confessing their true feelings.  The play follows two sets of lovers on a roller-coaster ride of courtship, aided and thwarted by a cast of high-minded nobles, bumbling watchmen, and nefarious villains.  Deception is rife, the jokes tumble, and tragedy is near at hand, until this possibly perfect comedy is restored into a deeper love at the end.

"My growth as an actor was immediately evident when I returned to school. Several of my fellow student-actors approached me in amazement over my newfound acting abilities. When they asked me how I had improved so much, I realized that I was experiencing the result of a second summer spent with Traveling Players."
